LARGO - About 60 people were evacuated from the West Bay Surgery Center and Diagnostic Clinic Pain Management building at 1401 West Bay Drive on Friday afternoon after a worker mixed two kinds of cleaning products, according to Largo fire officials.
The incident started when a worker used one product to open a clogged sink. When that didn't work, the worker tried another.
The two products reacted and produced chlorine fumes about 12:35 p.m., Largo Fire Rescue deputy chief of operations Jeff Bullock said.
Medical personnel were able to seal off the fumes from rooms where surgical procedures were under way, Bullock said.
Firefighters neutralized the chemicals, took the sink apart to get rid of the cleaning products and blew the fumes out of the building.
One person was treated at the scene but did not need to go to the hospital.
Everyone was back in the building shortly before 2 p.m.
