SHARPES - A paroled sexual battery convict faces more than 1,000 years in prison after his arrest on purse snatching charges.

Paul Frederick Goodwin, 39, of Melbourne was sentenced in 1988 to 25 years in prison and 999 years, 98 months and 99 days of probation. He was released on probation in June 2000.

After he was arrested in a traffic stop Tuesday, deputies said he matched the description of a man wanted for three purse snatches from elderly women.

If convicted of any of the three counts of grand theft or the count of robbery by sudden snatching, Goodwin will be sent back to prison to serve the term of his probation, which he agreed to as a condition of his release.

Goodwin pleaded innocent Wednesday.
