ST. PETERSBURG - Cynthia Duval, who coordinates a federally financed museum operations program at St. Petersburg College, has been named curator at Florida International Museum.
In that role, she will help select exhibits and will help manage them once they arrive at the museum. Previously, FIM has had an exhibitions director, but the position of curator is new for the organization.
Duval came to the United States from her native England in 1972 and joined Sotheby's in New York in 1973. She has been curator of decorative arts at Sarasota's John and Mable Ringling Museum and program administrator and curator at Ca d'Zan, the restored Ringling winter residence. She was assistant director and curator of decorative arts at the Museum of Fine Arts and associate director of exhibitions for Artreach International, which offers traveling exhibitions throughout the world.
Duval's experience complements the FIM's artistic and popular exhibition format, said Kathy Oathout, executive director.
