Service will mark King holiday

By Times Staff Writer
Published January 11, 2004

An ecumenical service to commemorate the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday will be held at 4 p.m. Jan. 18, at Lakeview Presbyterian Church, 1310 22nd Ave. S, St. Petersburg. The theme will be "In the Spirit of the Dream."

The Rev. Nathaniel Tindall, former pastor of several St. Petersburg Baptist congregations and now a lawyer and community activist in Tampa, will speak. Choir music, congregational singing, readings and prayers from various faith traditions will highlight the service. Tributes also will be paid to two local African-American leaders who died during the past year, the Rev. Mayjor Walker and Charles Carroll.

The service is being coordinated by the Martin Luther King Commemorative Committee and Congregations United for Community Action, a local faith-based coalition dedicated to encouraging the shared values of justice and compassion as found in many religious traditions. Contact, Abdul Karim Ali at (727) 867-7067.
