'Webb's City' pair offers musical farce

ST. PETERSBURG - The frontier Pinellas peninsula is the setting for a musical comedy at 7 p.m. Monday at Bininger Theater on the Eckerd College campus, which is at 4200 54th Ave. S.

Acclaimed dramatists Bill Leavengood and Lee Ahlin will unveil A Beautiful Florida Night, which is a retelling of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. But it comprises local history and characters, including railroad magnate Henry B. Plant and land baron Hamilton Disston.

The suggested donation for the workshop-style presentation is $10. Light refreshments and audience discussion will follow.

The show plays again 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Shimberg Playhouse in the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center in Tampa.

Leavengood and Ahlin are familiar to area theater patrons, perhaps most widely for their collaboration on Webb's City: The Musical. LiveArts Peninsula Foundation is producing A Beautiful Florida Night.
