Rattlers crawl out of hole

TALLAHASSEE - Terrence Woods scored 27 to lead Florida A&M to a 87-81 win over Hampton on Saturday, snapping a four-game losing streak.

Woods made 7 of 8 3-pointers and 4 of 4 free throws.

Demarcus Wilkins scored 15 and Michael Harper added 14 for the Rattlers (2-10, 1-2 Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference).

Jeff Granger scored a career-high 40 and Devin Green added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Pirates (4-11, 2-2), who are off to their worst start in five seasons.

Granger, who scored 28 in the first half, shot 12-of-26 from the floor and 7-of-14 from 3-point range.

Hampton led 45-38 at halftime, but Florida A&M opened the second half with a 14-5 run to take the lead.

The Rattlers pushed the lead to nine with 4:40 left. The Pirates cut it to five twice in the final three minutes but didn't get any closer.

B-CC 79, NORFOLK ST. 70: Markey Picard scored 17 and Pape Ba added 16 for the host Wildcats. The win ended a 10-game losing streak for Bethune-Cookman (1-10, 1-2 MEAC).

Picard and Ba combined for 26 first-half points, helping the Wildcats build a 39-23 halftime lead. It stretched to 54-28 with 12:12 left before Norfolk State (3-10, 2-2) went on an 38-17 run during the next 11 minutes, getting within 71-66 with 1:01 left.

Diondre Larmond and Anis Taylor each went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the last 50 seconds, helping seal the win.

CANISIUS 67, FIU 57: Kevin Downey scored 15 to lead the Golden Griffins (5-9) to their first home win and break a six-game losing streak.

The Golden Panthers (3-11) outrebounded Canisius 48-39 but went 4 of 19 from 3-point range.

FIU's Harry Lum scored 20 and grabbed eight rebounds. Marcus Robinson scored 12, and Byron Burnett had 14 rebounds.

ECKERD 86, SAINT LEO 74: Marcus Bryant had 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the visiting Tritons. Dan Dreaden added 19 points off the bench.

The Lions led 34-22 with 4:48 left in the first half before the Eckerd went on a 13-5 run, cutting it to 39-35 at halftime.

Dreaden's layup with 14:19 left put the Tritons ahead for good.

Larry Henderson led Saint Leo with 20 points. J.J. Turner of Brandon added 16.

TAMPA 74, NOVA S'EASTERN 60: Achille Ngounou had 19 points and six rebounds to lead the host Spartans (10-5). Rob Sargeant added 10 points, three blocks and 11 rebounds.
