Tower will help spread the word

By Times Staff Writer
Published January 18, 2004

PINELLAS PARK - Council members are poised to approve the construction of a tower on Park Boulevard to let folks know of city happenings. The tower with digital message board is planned for the northeast corner of Park Boulevard and 49th Street near the 9/11 memorial.

The cost for the tower is $220,586. Almost half of that - $100,000 - is being paid for with a Community Development Block Grant from Pinellas County.

The 35-foot tower will be in the same architectural style as the tower being erected at Park Station, which the city is building on the north side of Park at the railroad tracks. The Park Station tower also is planned to display digital information for passersby.

Council members are scheduled to vote Tuesday whether to build the tower. The meeting is at 7 p.m. in the council workshop room on the second floor of City Hall, 5141 78th Ave. N. The meeting is open to the public.
