ST. PETERSBURG - An 18-year-old man was shot in the head Tuesday evening and taken to Bayfront Medical Center, police said.

Investigators did not release his name or condition late Tuesday, but said he was alive when transported to the hospital.

Further, police did not know whether the 18-year-old shot himself - accidentally or on purpose - or whether someone else shot him, said Sgt. Phil Brewer of the St. Petersburg Police Department.

The shooting occurred about 8:45 p.m. at Dover Apartments, 3545 30th Ave. N, inside apartment 7, police said. Several people were inside at the time of the shooting, police said.

An investigation is continuing.
