Hot ticket: Fundraiser for local photographer

By BILL DURYEA
Published January 22, 2004

More than 40 artists with deep roots in the Tampa Bay area have donated works for the Bud Lee and Friends Show, a fundraiser for the well-known photographer Saturday at the Lotus Room in Tampa. Lee, who made an international name for himself as a photographer in the '60s and '70s with work in Life and Esquire, was one of the prime movers of the Ybor City arts scene in the late '70s and '80s, and an inspiration to younger local artists. Lee suffered a stroke while on assignment in August. All money raised by the live and silent auctions will go toward his care. Among the artists who have contributed work are Mainsail Art Festival winners Nancy Cervenka (celluloid sculpture) and Neverne Covington (painting and illustration), Susan Gott (glass sculpture), John Briggs (painting), Rick Melby (glass lighting and sculpture) and Mernet Larsen (painting). Organizer David Audet says the entertainment will hark back to the freewheeling days of the Artists and Writers Balls. The Lotus Room is at 1101 W Kennedy Blvd. Admission is $10. The event starts at 6 p.m. For information, contact David Audet at (813) 935-9232 or Carolyn Kossar at (813) 253-7674.
