CARACAS, Venezuela - Free-agent closer Ugueth Urbina has been arrested for firing gunshots into the air in an upscale Caracas neighborhood.

Police arrested Urbina early Friday morning for firing a gun out the passenger window of an SUV, Chacao police chief Leonardo Diaz Paruta said in comments published Saturday in El Nacional. Urbina and a friend, Cesar Diaz, were intoxicated when they were detained. Police seized a revolver from them. They were charged with possession of a weapon without a license and misuse of a firearm.

It was not clear whether they still were in custody.

RED SOX: Free-agent infielder Tony Womack, 34, signed a minor-league contract.

PIRATES: Right-hander Rick Reed, 38, will return to the team he broke into the majors with 16 years ago, agreeing to attend camp as a nonroster player.
