DADE CITY - Proponents of an extension to the Withlacoochee State Trail will gather Monday for a ribbon cutting at a new trailhead along U.S. 301 in Trilby.

Denny Mihalinec, who led the drive for the parking area, said the trailhead marks the southern end of the 46-mile paved trail.

The public is invited to the event at 10:30 a.m. at the new parking area, about 6 miles north of Dade City along U.S. 301.

Mihalinec is gathering signatures with a goal of extending the trail farther south into Dade City.

The trail is a popular recreation spot for walkers, bicyclists and inline skaters.
