Fire commissioners return to evening schedule

SPRING HILL - Spring Hill Fire Rescue District commissioners will resume holding their monthly workshops at night in an effort to accommodate the work schedule of Commissioner Richard Martin, who recently returned from military service in Iraq.

Fire commissioners meet twice a month - on the second and fourth Wednesdays. Shortly after Martin reported for active duty last year, the remaining commissioners moved the first meeting of the month to 9 a.m. so office staffers would be available to answer questions. But Martin, who returned from Iraq in December, said his job as a regional salesman for an outdoor power equipment company would prevent him from making most daytime meetings. The fire board agreed Wednesday - during Martin's first meeting back - to resume holding both its monthly meetings at 7 p.m. Chairman Jeffrey Hollander said discussion on the meeting times may be reopened later this spring.
