CHICAGO - The Bears said general manager Jerry Angelo and coach Lovie Smith will talk to linebacker Brian Urlacher about his pro wrestling appearance Wednesday and anything discussed will be handled internally.
After Total Nonstop Action's Don Callis taunted Urlacher, he jumped into the ring, clotheslined two security officers and threw 130-pound Jon Dalton, from Survivor, over the ropes.
Neither Angelo nor Smith knew he planned to make the appearance on behalf of Erik Watts, a wrestler and friend of Urlacher.
"There's no way I can get hurt, and I'm not doing anything crazy," Urlacher said before the event. "So they shouldn't have a problem with it."
"Brian wants to help us, and he's not going to do anything that would hinder the Bears winning this coming season," Smith said. "Things that I think would put our future in jeopardy, of course, I'll deal with on an individual basis with all the players."
Buc wins Starr award
HOUSTON - Bucs linebacker Derrick Brooks won the Bart Starr Award for 2003.
The award, voted on by the players, goes to the player who best exemplifies outstanding character at home, in the community and on the field.
Starr, the Hall of Fame quarterback for the Packers, was to present Brooks with the honor this morning.
Brooks established his foundation last offseason. It focuses on charitable endeavors for children and does considerable work for the March of Dimes, D.A.R.E and Tampa Bay area Boys and Girls clubs.
His Brooks Bunch completed its sixth field trip last summer. Brooks was co-recipient of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award in 2000 and serves on the union's diversity committee.
Also, the Bucs signed receiver Danny Farmer. Terms were not disclosed. He did not play last season after being released by the Bengals at the end of training camp. In four seasons, 33 games, with the team, he had 43 catches for 611 yards and one touchdown.
TRIAL DELAYED: Former quarterback Jim McMahon's trial has been delayed until March 3 to give his lawyer more time to challenge breath tests showing his blood alcohol level.
ARENA FOOTBALL: The Storm traded receiver/linebacker Gary Compton to Philadelphia for future considerations. Compton ranks among the league's all-time receiving and scoring leaders but had 14 receptions and three touchdowns in five games last season.
The Storm waived defensive specialist Hurley Tarver, who missed all but two games last season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, and offensive/defensive lineman Tyronn Johnson.
Lineman Shawn King was placed on injured reserve and will miss the Feb.8 opener. Lineman Jerome King was placed on recallable waivers. He can be signed to the practice squad if another team does not claim him.
Also, the team will have a Super Bowl party at 4 p.m. Sunday at Newk's Cafe in Tampa. Fans can watch the game with players and coaches.
And the Storm will be honored on the ice for its ArenaBowl XVII victory during the second intermission of tonight's Lightning game. Some players will sign autographs outside Section 101 during the first period.
