TAMPA - A federal jury found Safety Harbor resident William L. Tiner guilty Friday of four counts of income tax evasion and three counts of filing false income tax returns.
Starting in 1996, Tiner diverted and concealed profits from WLT Software of Florida through a series of trusts and foreign companies, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Tampa. He failed to report in excess of $2.5-million between 1996 and 1999, evading more than $900,000 in taxes.
Tiner, 60, faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and $250,000 fines on each of the tax evasion counts, and a maximum of three years in prison and $250,000 fines on each of the false tax return counts. His trial lasted 10 days.
