L.A. GM candidate for his job

LOS ANGELES - Dodgers general manager Dan Evans may have to interview for his job.

New team owner Frank McCourt met with Evans on Friday and told him the team will search for a new general manager - and Evans will be among the candidates.

McCourt hopes to reach a decision by the beginning of spring training. The status of manager Jim Tracy would be left to the general manager who is chosen, McCourt said.

Evans declined comment.

McCourt is thought to be interested in longtime executive Pat Gillick, especially after Athletics owner Steve Schott told the San Francisco Chronicle he wouldn't allow Los Angeles to interview his general manager, Billy Beane.

Evans is in the final year of a three-year contract.
