GAINESVILLE - Saying he hopes to become the second coming of former Gators All-America defensive end Jevon Kearse, one of the nation's top high school defensive ends has decided to attend Florida.

Derrick Harvey of Greenbelt (Md.) Eleanor Roosevelt, orally committed on ESPN Tuesday afternoon. At 6 feet 5, 235 pounds, he is considered among the nation's top three defensive ends despite having played just two seasons of organized football.

Harvey chose the Gators over Maryland, Miami, Tennessee and Georgia.

"The coaches took me in like I was their own son, and all the players," Harvey said.
