BROOKSVILLE - For members of the Brooksville Woman's Club, getting dolled up is just good business.
This weekend, the group will try to re-create the success of last year's Dolls, Miniature Houses and Bear Show and Sale at the Hernando County Fairgrounds with merchants from all over the Southeast.
"We held the show last year for the first time, and vendors said it was one of the best shows they'd ever been in," said Eunice Compton, vice president of the club. "We were lucky enough to get guidance from some people who have been at this for a long time."
Like several other events, including the holiday tour of homes, Compton said she hopes the show will become a Woman's Club legacy.
"It's a lot of fun, but it's a lot of work for a very few women," said Compton, who estimates club membership at about 50. "Luckily, we have quite a few new, younger members who are full of energy. It's just fantastic."
This year's show boasts 20 tables full of everything from soft and cuddly bears to glamorous dolls, Compton said, and would make a wonderful place to start early Christmas shopping.
Like the estimated $1,000 raised last year, proceeds from the show will benefit the club's fund to refurbish its 73-year-old clubhouse at 131 S Main St. in Brooksville.
"Our clubhouse is a grand old girl," Compton said. "The ladies used to sell sweet potatoes and things like that in order to purchase the land. They worked very hard, and we feel like it's our duty to keep it up."
