BROOKSVILLE - Hernando golfer Keegan Ledford signed a scholarship with Faulkner State in Fairhope, Ala.
Ledford, a three-time all-conference player in his four-year career and Times Citrus/Her-nando 2003 Player of the Year, chose the Division I junior college after months of weighing options from other schools.
"I didn't know where I was going to go, if I was going to go," Ledford said. "But now I'm looking forward to getting out on my own."
Faulkner State won the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I championship last year and has sent many of its players to four-year colleges. Ledford, whose scholarship is worth roughly $5,000 annually, also considered Savannah (Ga.) College of Art and Design and Warner Southern in Lake Wales.
Ledford has been active for years on the state's junior circuits. In July he won the North Suncoast Junior Golf Association's Tournament of Champions. He plans on defending that title and playing in other NSJGA events this season.
For now Ledford is taking some time off the course and is about to begin his first season on Hernando's tennis team.
As a freshman at Hernando, Ledford was a region tournament qualifier. Last season he won the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference tournament in a playoff and helped lead the Leopards to a team appearance at regions.
