GOOD NEIGHBORS: The Good Neighbor Trail Advisory Committee will host the Good Neighbor Trail Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the historic train depot and neighboring Russell Street Park on Russell Street, south of downtown Brooksville. There will be entertainment, children's games and activities, food, demonstrations and more. The free festival is being held in conjunction with the Flatlanders Challenge, the annual 10K race along Brooksville streets. Call 544-5430.

JUST WADDLE AWAY: Suncoast Basset Rescue's annual Sweetheart's Day Waddle will be Saturday and Sunday at Florida Classic Park, on Lockhart Road east of Brooksville. VALENTINE DANCE: There will be a Valentine's Day dance from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Jerome Brown Community Center off W Jefferson Street in Brooksville. Door prizes and refreshments will be available. The event is free. Call 544-5498.

JUNIOR JAZZ: The Hernando Jazz Society will have a mixer from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the SNPJ Hall on County Line Road in Spring Hill. Featured performers will be the Hudson Middle School Jazz Band. Admission for jazz society members is free; nonmembers, $5. For information, call 596-4400.

CHAINSAW DEMONSTRATION: A chainsaw workshop is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Chinsegut Nature Center, 23212 Lake Lindsey Road, north of Brooksville. There will be expert training for those who use chainsaws at work or at home. Registration is required; call 754-6722.

CITY GALLERY: Paintings, quilts, photography, ceramics and poetry are on display during business hours at the Brooksville City Hall Art Gallery, 201 Howell Ave. Admission is free. Call 544-5040.

BEYOND THE BED: Four quilt shows are being held today and Saturday in Pasco County. "Beyond the Bed: State of the Art Quilts" continues through Feb. 21 at Pasco Arts Center, 5744 Moog Road, Holiday (9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays), and at the library at Pasco-Hernando Community College, 10230 Ridge Road, New Port Richey (9 a.m.-8 p.m. Mondays-Fridays; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays; and 2-5 p.m. Sundays). The shows feature 50 quilted works by 22 quilters from across Florida. Also, the 14th annual "Quilt Show and Sale" will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Pioneer Florida Museum and Village, off U.S. 301 north of Dade City. The show features Hoffman Collection Quilts, dolls and clothing. Admission is $5 in advance, $6 at the gate. Parking is free. Finally, the West Pasco Quilters Guild Inc. will hold its eighth biennial quilt show, "Sew Many Quilts 2004," from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Veterans Memorial Park, 14333 Hicks Road, Hudson. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for ages 11 and younger.

COMMON GROUND: Irish step dancing, clogging and tap dancing will be featured in "Dancing on Common Ground," an anthology of dance to be presented at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pasco-Hernando Community College's Performing Arts Center, 10230 Ridge Road, New Port Richey. The 10 dancers will show the relationships among several dance forms. Admission is $12, $14 and $16. FORTRESS OF FREEDOM: "Fort Mose, Colonial America's Black Fortress of Freedom," an exhibit about the excavation of America's first legally sanctioned black community, continues through March 23 at the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum, 1 Courthouse Square in Inverness. Fort Mose was a sanctuary and a community for African-born slaves who escaped from their owners in the Carolinas.
