BRANDON - Riding the strength of 11 champions, Brandon won the Hillsborough County Championships with 325 points on Saturday.

The battle was for second between Armwood and Chamberlain. The Hawks took silver with 177.5 points, followed by Chamberlain (165.5), Hillsborough (111), Wharton (105.5) and (Leto 92).

The Hawks captured the 152-pound individual title, placed two runnersup and had everyone score points.

"They functioned as a team today, not just the champion or the others who placed in the top four, but everyone scored points for us," Armwood coach Don Hill said.

"They are still learning and still improving. As we get ready for districts next weekend, we won't work on anything new, but just polish and improve on what they already have."

Brandon champions scoring pins included Keith Simmons (275), Rashard Goff (215), Rocky Cozart (160), Tommy Hutchinson (145) Ryan Joyce (135) and Cesar Grajales (125).

The other Eagles champions included Franklin Gomez (119), Brandon Ray (130), Eddie Hutchinson (140), David Craig (171) and Jarrod Thompson (189).

Matt Edwards won for Armwood at 152, Eric Soto won for Alonso at 103, and Lowell Topham won for Chamberlain at 112.
