Kid Rock was the real offender
Much to my dismay, the talk of the town wasn't the great Super Bowl game, but rather Justin Timberlake ripping Janet Jackson's shirt open to reveal a breast. Who cares?
Am I the only person who saw Kid Rock wearing the U.S. flag as a poncho? He cut a hole in our flag to stick his huge head through and the edges of our glorious flag were frayed!
How could the NFL allow Kid Rock to take the stage draped in the flag? Why would CBS air this? You block out Janet's breast (like the entire world hasn't seen it already), but you allow Kid Rock in our nation's representation of freedom and sacrifice to scream and yell wearing our flag?
Kid Rock, if you're reading this, you: 1. are too close to my hometown; 2. are in a lot of trouble if I get my way; 3. need to review all of the rules for our flag so you don't do something stupid like this again.
I don't know why the NFL is so upset with the MTV halftime program. The entertainers were only duplicating some of the inane activities demonstrated by players during the game.
Thanks for the article on Don Zimmer (Zim: The baseball man, Jan. 11). I've been a Red Sox fan since the '60s and a Don Zimmer fan since he was manager of the Red Sox. Truly he is Mr. Baseball, and I wish him and the Rays good luck this season (except when they play the Red Sox).
In reference to John Romano's five reasons the Super Bowl champion Patriots are not a dynasty (Gimme 5, Feb. 2). First and foremost, you of all people should know a dynasty begins when a team wins championships. Therefore, the New England dynasty would have begun after its first championship and not five years ago. You compare my Patriots to your Bucs and you are right, the Pats are not yet a dynasty. You sound like a very bitter Bucs fan. Second, you jab at Russ Hochstein, like your buddy Warren Sapp. You two are meant for one another. Warren has to have the spotlight on him all the time, even in a Super Bowl he didn't play in. Warren should know better and you, Mr. Romano, should report on the Super Bowl without your two cents about the Bucs. And by the way, Hochstein and the offensive line didn't allow a sack in the playoffs. Shows you how bad he is, NOT!
The Trent Dilfer Syndrome strikes again! What is with this team? We either throw away Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks the year before they win or the year after.
While I understand and endorse the constant re-evaluation of talent and positional competition, I don't understand all the bad press surrounding Brad Johnson and the Bucs' 7-9 record.
Break down the film from the nine losses and let me know how many Johnson lost. How many missed blocks and drive-killing penalties did he have? How many field goals and extra points did he miss? What part of a four-minute, 21-point meltdown was his fault?
I saw this team in a position to win in 50 percent of its losses, only to lose through defensive and special teams failures. Brad Johnson is not responsible for 7-9.
So now the courts have forced the NFL to accept people into its draft against its own rules. As with Augusta National, where does this stop? Will they soon force me not to play golf with whomever I wish?
