STARKE - A hunger strike by inmates protesting their treatment at Florida State Prison continued into a second week Sunday, with three of the original eight strikers keeping up their fast.
Ricardo Gill, Michael Ritter and Ronald Clark - who all have been convicted of murder - continued to refuse food Sunday, Department of Corrections spokesman Sterling Ivey said.
Christopher Michelson ended his strike Saturday night, Ivey said. Michelson was the fifth to end his protest, which began Feb. 1. Among the inmates' demands are more exercise time; better availability of food, books, magazines and newspapers; the right to visit with and make telephone calls to family and friends; the ability to purchase shampoo, mouthwash and deodorant; and warmer clothing in winter months.
Prison officials said they would seek a court order to force-feed any inmates whose lives become endangered.
