Hernando Beach Park to be renamed for activist

By WILL VAN SANT
Published February 11, 2004

The County Commission Tuesday voted to rename the 135-acre Hernando Beach Park, located at 6400 Shoal Line Boulevard, Linda Pedersen Park at Jenkins Creek.

The name change came at the request of local organizations such as Weeki Wachee Swamp Festival, Weeki Wachee Crime Watch and Hernando Environmental Land Protectors, who wished to honor the memory of Linda Pedersen.

An environmental activist, Pedersen was killed in a car accident in 2000. She was 54. The name change was supported by the county Parks and Recreation Department.
