TARPON SPRINGS - A Tampa man was in critical condition Tuesday night after a backhoe ran over him on Keystone Road in Tarpon Springs, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Genaro Gomez-Hernandez, 23, was in the bucket of a backhoe as it traveled west on the north shoulder of Keystone Road near Lora Lane. About 2:30 p.m., the backhoe drove over rough terrain and Gomez-Hernandez lost his balance and fell beneath the backhoe's left front tire.

He was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where he remained Tuesday night. The driver, Christopher J. Hardyman, 27, was not injured. No charges were filed.
