TAMPA - It's tough to win when your team has only two shots on goal. Then again, when you're playing against Berkeley Prep and Chelsea Hatcher, it's tough win no matter how many shots you might get.
Tuesday was a case in point as Fort Myers Canterbury barely had a sniff at a goal and Hatcher scored three as the Bucs won 5-0.
Berkeley, however, didn't get really cranked up until the second half when it scored four of its goals, partly because of a few halftime adjustments.
"We talked about not taking shots from poor angles and taking the ball to their keeper as opposed to shooting from the perimeter," Berkeley coach Ken Roberts said. "We played more of our game in the second half."
Hatcher added her second and third goals, both off of sprints through the box, at the 43rd and 46th minutes. Christine Lippleman and Nikki Lanza added the fourth and fifth goals a few minutes later.
"Except for those few minutes there in the second half I thought we did okay," Canterbury coach Kelvin Thomas said. "But Hatcher proved to be a threat at all times.
"I haven't seen many players her age (eighth grade) head the ball like that. Nor have I seen many with that kind of speed and athleticism."
Berkeley (14-10-1) will travel Friday to Lakeland Christian, which defeated Shorecrest 4-1.
"We need to keep doing a good job of taking advantage of our opportunities like we did in the second half tonight," Roberts said. "Sometimes we haven't done the best job of that, but hopefully we will from here on out."
