Man fatally stabbed near downtown Starbucks

CLEARWATER - A man was fatally stabbed outside the Starbucks in downtown Clearwater at 8:34 p.m. Friday, police said. Police responded to the coffee shop at 433 Cleveland St. in response to a fight that was occurring in a parking lot behind the Starbucks.

When they arrived, the found a middle-aged man with a wound to his chest, police said. They took him to Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, where he later died, police said.

By late Friday, police had not identified the victim, and no one was in custody.

Murders are relatively rare in Clearwater, with seven in 2002, four in 2001 and six in 2000, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
