WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Chris Paul scored 12 of his 23 over the final 5:10 to help No. 15 Wake Forest hand No. 3 Duke consecutive losses with a 90-84 victory Wednesday.
In a testy game that came down to the final seconds, Paul carried the Demon Deacons (16-5, 6-5 ACC).
He scored 19 in the second as Wake Forest overcame a 13-point deficit. He added eight assists and kept his teammates calm as Duke (21-3, 10-2) tried to pull it out.
Paul capped his scoring with a pair of free throws with 6.5 seconds left to seal the win. Wake Forest students stormed the floor.
NO. 2 SAINT JOSEPH'S 72, FORDHAM 54: Jameer Nelson had 18 points and nine assists for the visiting Hawks (23-0, 12-0 Atlantic 10). Nelson was named a finalist for the Naismith Award. He joins Stanford's Josh Childress, Duke's Chris Duhon and J.J. Redick, among others.
NO. 6 GONZAGA 79, PORTLAND 69: On a night when alum John Stockton had his number retired, the host Bulldogs rode 19 points and nine rebounds from Ronny Turiaf.
NO. 8 UCONN 76, MIAMI 63: Emeka Okafor had 18 points, 15 rebounds and six blocks for the host Huskies, who ended a two-game skid. The Hurricanes (13-13, 3-9) have lost eight consecutive.
NO. 9 KENTUCKY 73, ARKANSAS 56: Erik Daniels scored 21 and the Wildcats posted their most lopsided SEC win. UK (18-4, 8-3) scored the first nine - seven by Kelenna Azubuike - and never trailed.
NO. 11 TEXAS 77, TEXAS A&M 57: Brandon Mouton scored 20 and Kenny Taylor hit four 3-pointers for the host Longhorns (18-4, 9-2 Big 12).
CLEMSON 60, NO. 13 N.C. STATE 55: The visiting Wolfpack hit only 30.2 percent from the floor. Three days after defeating Duke, N.C. State (16-6, 9-3 ACC) scored just 19 in the first.
ILLINOIS 65, NO. 12 WISCONSIN 57: Deron Williams scored 31 as the host Illini (17-5, 8-3 Big Ten) won its fifth consecutive.
UAB 80, NO. 17 CINCINNATI 69: Ronell Taylor scored 12 in just 17 minutes for the host Blazers. Cincinnati (17-5, 8-3) has lost four of six.
NO. 20 S. ILLINOIS 84, EVANSVILLE 69: The visiting Salukis clinched their third consecutive Missouri Valley Conference title with its 13th victory in a row.
NO. 21 KANSAS 74, BAYLOR 54: J.R. Giddens made two 3-pointers during a 17-4 run for the host Jayhawks (16-6, 8-3 Big 12).
COLORADO 85, NO. 22 TEXAS TECH 75: David Harrison had 24 points and 10 rebounds for the host Buffaloes (14-8, 6-5 Big 12). Texas Tech (18-7, 6-5) was led by Devonne Giles with 18. Before the game, it was announced Tech coach Bobby Knight dropped his breach-of-contract lawsuit against Indiana almost four years after being fired.
AUBURN 80, NO. 24 LSU 68: Ian Young scored 21 and Marco Killingsworth 20 for the visiting Tigers (17-5, 7-7 SEC).
