SPRING HILL - A 4-year-old boy was hospitalized Thursday after he wandered into his neighbor's yard in Spring Hill and was bitten by their dog, authorities said.

Jacob Kennedy was flown by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, where he was being treated for head injuries. Jacob was listed in stable condition Thursday afternoon, and he might need reconstructive surgery, Hernando sheriff's spokesman Capt. Alan Arick said.

The attack occurred about 10:15 a.m. after Jacob was playing in his fenced-in back yard at 2356 Anza Ave. He apparently squeezed through a loose plank in the fence and walked into the neighbor's yard at 2364 Anza Ave., where he was bitten by his neighbor's German shepherd and chow mix, Arick said. Property records indicate that the home at 2364 Anza Ave. is owned by Paul and Lily Rice.
