SOUNDS OF BROADWAY: The Nature Coast Technical High School Musical Theatre class will present the musical theater revue "Celebrate Broadway' at 7 p.m. today in the school's theater, 4057 California St., Brooksville. MARKET ON MAIN STREET: The monthly Market on Main Street will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the city of Brooksville parking lot next to Antique Sampler, 31 S Main St., in downtown Brooksville. VALENTINE'S BALL: The annual Love Shouldn't Hurt Valentine's Ball will be Saturday at the Palace Grand, off U.S. 19, a quarter-mile north of County Line Road in Spring Hill. Cocktails will be at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $150 per couple, which includes hors d'oeuvres, dinner, dancing and surprises. The event is a fundraiser for the Dawn Center of Hernando County, which provides shelter and services to victims of domestic violence. Call 686-8759.

MARDI GRAS GREEK-STYLE: Christ the Savior Greek Orthodox Church will celebrate its annual Mardi Gras, Glendi, at 4 p.m. Saturday at the church, 13460 Olympic Village Lane, off Sunshine Grove Road, west of Brooksville. TOUR AHHOCHEE HILL AND BLUEBIRD PROJECT: The Hernando Audubon Society will host a tour of Ahhochee Hill from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The property, which was recently acquired by the Audubon of Florida Sanctuary, is north of Brooksville off Lake Lindsey Road. It was donated by the late Lisa von Borowsky, one of the co-founders of the Hernando Audubon chapter. The sanctuary includes cypress marsh, forest and open field habitats. There are numerous species of birds and wildlife. The event will also include the annual bluebird box cleanup and repairs. Participants will learn how to make and maintain their own bluebird trails. CITY GALLERY: The Brooksville City Hall Art Gallery, 201 Howell Ave., is featuring its 2004 Winter Art Exhibit. FORTRESS OF FREEDOM: Fort Mose, Colonial America's Black Fortress of Freedom, an exhibit about the excavation of America's first legally sanctioned black community, continues through March 23 at the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum, 1 Courthouse Square in Inverness. Fort Mose was a sanctuary and a community for African-born slaves who escaped from their owners in the Carolinas. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. Call (352) 341-6436.

CURTAIN CALLS

The Tri-County Chorus Competition will take place at this year's Hernando County Fair in April. It will be sponsored by the Hernando County Fine Arts Council and the fair association. Competition is open to choruses of 11 members or more in Hernando, Pasco and Citrus counties. Preliminaries for mixed adult groups will be from 7 to 9 p.m. April 15; children's choruses, 3 to 5 p.m. April 17; women's choruses, 7 to 9 p.m. April 20; and men's choruses, 7 to 9 p.m. April 21. Finals will be April 23. Applications are available online at www.hernandocountyfair.com or at the fair office, 6436 S Broad St. in Brooksville. Entry forms must be submitted by April 12. Entry fee is $50 for adult choruses and $35 for children's groups. Prizes in each adult category are $500 for first, $250 for second and $100 for third place. Angel Cabaret Theatre, 5201 U.S. 19, New Port Richey, will have auditions for The "It' Girl at 6 p.m. March 8. Roles are for four women and three men, ages 20s to 30s, who can sing, act and move well. Those who audition should bring a photo and resume, instrumental tape or CD and be prepared to read from the script. Rehearsals will begin March 29. Production dates are April 9 to May 16. New Millennia Studio will hold auditions for a staged reading of the new Bluegrass & Roots musical Little Sparrow at 4 p.m. Thursday at the studio, 316 S Broad St., Brooksville. Readings will be filmed for the composer/lyricist, as well as potential producers to view. Performances will be held March 19 and 20 at the studio. Needed are actor/singers and actor/musicians Guitar, Fiddle, Mandolin, Harmonica ages 9 to 60. Prepare two acapella bluegrass songs, and be prepared to read from the script. This will be an open call, with a preference list given to those who email their pic and resume to newmillenniastudio@msn.com by Wednesday. There will be a small travel stipend and possible accommodations and meals provided. No calls, please.
