LARGO - An internal investigation has found that a Largo police officer did not violate any agency policies or procedures in a Jan. 17 collision that killed a bicyclist.
Officer George Walters was driving home from work about 11 p.m. that night when David Brian Graves, 48, crossed two lanes of traffic in the 1300 block of Seminole Boulevard and collided head-on with Walters' cruiser. Graves was not wearing a helmet and did not have reflectors or a light on his bicycle, police said.
Police said Walters was not speeding and had his headlights on when the crash occurred. He was treated at Largo Medical Center for cuts and bruises and was placed briefly on workers' compensation leave. A routine internal investigation, concluded last week, found Walters was in compliance with all department policies when the crash occurred. Walters returned to work a few days after the crash. A drug test, which is mandatory for officers involved in crashes, was clean, police said.
