To all the people of St. Petersburg who were disappointed that the Grand Prix won't be held downtown this year, there's good news: The daily Shore Acres grand prix is held every day and runs 24 hours a day.
Please come on down and thrill to the high-speed driving on the narrow and twisting streets of Shore Acres.
Watch as drivers of all ages compete to set new land speed records on residential streets.
Watch as their cars leave the ground over bridges so narrow you can't ride a bike or push a stroller over them. Thrill to the near misses as you attempt to pull out of your driveway. Be amazed at the disregard for speed limits, stop signs and human life or property.
Come on down; I dare you to see what you're missing.
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning, I ride my bicycle down 58th Street in Pinellas Park all the way to 38th Avenue. I ride on the street, with a helmet, lights when it's still dark and I obey the traffic laws. I ride as far over to the right as I possibly can without running off the road.
I wanted to say thank you to the driver of the dark-maroon colored, older model car who passes me by each time and gives me at least 4 feet of space. He has also waited for oncoming traffic to pass by before passing me. He is a shining example of how easy it can be for drivers to share the road with bicyclists. Thank you for your kindness and respect.
It takes an average of 20 seconds off your commute to share the road with a bicyclist. Take the 20 seconds to ensure a person's safety.
