JACKSONVILLE - Brian Baisley homered in the 10th, and Chase Lirette struck out the final two batters with the tying run on second as USF ended a two-game losing streak 5-4 over Jacksonville on Sunday.

Baisley's brother, Jeff, hit a three-run homer in the sixth to give USF a 4-3 lead. But the Dolphins tied it in the bottom of the inning when Pete Clifford scored from first on Jon Galui's double.

Lirette and fellow freshman Casey Hudspeth combined to strike out 18.

Hudspeth allowed four runs, three on Clint Hart's home run in the third, in six innings.

Lirette, who struck out nine in four innings, allowed a leadoff single to Sean McHugh in the 10th. After a strikeout, pinch-runner Larry Best-Berfet stole second.

But Lirette struck out Gordie Gronkowski and Orlando Diaz to end it.

"Casey Hudspeth was outstanding," Bulls coach Eddie Cardieri said. "He made one mistake on the day. He was bothered by a blister on his finger and yet toughed it out. It was just a great outing for him.

"Chase Lirette was nothing short of spectacular on the mound for us. He showed a lot of poise for a freshman."
