TAMPA - The University of Tampa women's basketball team closes out a disappointing regular season Wednesday at home against Florida Southern.

The Spartans (10-16) are 4-9 in the Sunshine State Conference and the sixth seed in next week's tournament. If the seedings hold steady, UT will face No.3 Florida Southern when the tourney tips off March 5 at Rollins.

The Spartans enter Wednesday's game coming off a 60-48 victory at Lynn. They had dropped six of their past seven before the win.

After an 18.5 average in two games last week, senior forward Yushanda Morse received SSC Player of the Week recognition.

In a 58-39 loss to Florida Tech, Morse recorded 22 rebounds, 14 points, three steals and three assists. Against Lynn, she had 23 points, 14 rebounds, three steals and two blocks. In the two games, Morse was 14 of 32 from the field and 9 of 20 at the free-throw line. Playing all 80 minutes, she committed just one turnover.

It is the second time this season Morse has been selected for the honor.

BASEBALL: Senior infielder Matt Armstrong produced back-to-back two-hit games against Saint Leo and Valdosta State.

In five games last week, he had a double, homer, three RBIs, six runs scored and four walks.

Junior pitcher Eric Beattie tossed a five-hit shutout in a 4-0 win at Valdosta State on Feb.21. He didn't allow a walk and struck out eight in nine innings.

Ranked third in Division II, UT (11-4) opens SSC play on Friday at home with a three-game series against Florida Tech.

SOFTBALL: Senior catcher Katie Bender knocked in the winning run in both games of a doubleheader against Saint Leo on Saturday.

In three games last week, Bender hit .333 and had three RBIs as UT swept the Lions.

Freshman Devlin Dougherty pitched 16 innings en route to two complete-game wins last week, including an extra-inning shutout against Saint Leo. She struck out 24 and had a 0.88 ERA.

UT (5-1) travels to Valdosta, Ga., this weekend for the Valdosta State tournament.
