ORLANDO - Magic guard Tracy McGrady will not sign an extension unless the team improves, Florida Today reported Wednesday.
"I've got to wait and see what happens this summer and next season before I do anything," McGrady told the newspaper. "I don't necessarily want to be a free agent, but I've got to wait and see what changes are going to come around here."
McGrady is in the fourth year of a seven-year deal worth $93-million. But he can exercise his option to leave Orlando after next season.
During McGrady's first three seasons, he carried the Magic to the playoffs though the team never advanced out of the first round.
The Magic is last in the league at 16-43, and the team's poor play is grating on the four-time All Star.
"I just can't go through this again - all this losing," McGrady said. During the team's 19-game skid earlier in the season, McGrady talked of retiring.
The Magic can offer McGrady an extension this summer worth $54-million over three years that would keep him in Orlando through the 2010 season.
WILLIAMS TRIAL: The judge in the manslaughter case of former All-Star Jayson Williams denied for a third time an attempt to split the case into two trials, one involving the shooting death of a limo driver and another on accusations Williams tried to cover it up. New Jersey Superior Court Judge Edward Coleman rejected the defense's argument the jury would not be able to consider all eight counts against Williams fairly.
BUCKS: Rookie point guard T.J. Ford is expected to miss 2-3 weeks because of a bruised spinal cord. Ford fell hard during a loss Tuesday night to Minnesota.
SONICS: The league fined guard Ray Allen $10,000 for criticizing officials after a 94-92 loss at Golden State on Friday.
