Connecticut romps to another Big East title

STORRS, Conn. - Top-ranked Connecticut won its 11th straight Big East regular-season title with a 79-38 victory Wednesday night over Providence.

Ann Strother had 10 points, Jessica Moore 10 rebounds and Diana Taurasi a season-high 10 assists for the Huskies, who were playing for the first time since regaining the No. 1 spot.

Connecticut (23-2, 13-1) made its 12th straight victory an easy one with an early 30-0 run that featured five 3-pointers and 76 percent shooting.

The Friars (4-21, 0-14) went scoreless for nearly 13 minutes in their 14th straight loss.

NO. 5 TEXAS 73, NO. 16 BAYLOR 72 (2OT): Jamie Carey hit two 3-pointers in the second overtime for the Longhorns (24-3, 12-2 Big 12) to extend the nation's longest home winning streak to 33. Sophia Young had 18 points and 15 rebounds for the Bears (20-7, 8-6).

NO. 23 OKLAHOMA 64, NO. 8 TEXAS TECH 53: Dionnah Jackson matched a career high with 23 points for the host Sooners (18-7, 8-6 Big 12), who have won five of six and swept the season series from the Red Raiders (23-5, 9-5).

NO. 9 KANSAS ST. 68, IOWA ST. 33: Kendra Wecker had 20 points and 11 rebounds, and the host Wildcats (22-3, 13-1 Big 12) won their ninth straight and snapped a three-game streak by the Cyclones (13-12, 6-8).

NOTRE DAME 93, NO. 21 UM 58: Jacqueline Batteast had 23 points and 10 rebounds, and the host Irish (18-8, 11-3 Big East) forced the Hurricanes (20-5, 9-5) into a season-high 37 turnovers.

FLA. SOUTHERN 79, TAMPA 52: Lucresia West scored 33 as the visiting Moccasins (16-9, 9-3 Sunshine State) beat the Spartans (10-17, 4-10).

NOVA SE 87, SAINT LEO 75: Jessie Pate had 31 points and 17 rebounds to lead the host Knights (11-15) past the Lions (0-25).
