GAINESVILLE - Former Florida receiver and assistant coach Lee McGriff will replace Scot Brantley as color analyst for the Gator Radio Network next football season.
McGriff rejoins the staff in a role he held from 1987-93. He played for the Gators from 1971-74 and was an assistant from 1978-82.
Brantley was informed this week he would lose the job he held for seven seasons.
Brantley, also a radio analyst for the Bucs, said from his home Wednesday that he was hurt by Florida's decision to move him from the booth and had not decided whether he would remain a part of the broadcast team. But late Wednesday, Brantley told assistant athletic director for external affairs Mike Hill he "intends to accept" his new role, details of which have not been finalized but which is expected to include pregame work.
Brantley said during a meeting with Florida officials Monday he never received a clear explanation of why the change is being made.
"I have no earthly idea, I'm still kind of dumbfounded," he said. "(Seven) years is a long time, but I was hoping it would be 28. I can't explain it. ... They offered to have me do more of the pregame kind of stuff." Hill said he discussed several issues with Brantley in the meeting.
"We reviewed the whole season with Scot in our meeting, and we outlined the reasons why," Hill said. Brantley is in negotiations with the Bucs as well. His contract as a color analyst ended at the end of the season.
Brantley, a former All-SEC linebacker, has been associated with Florida since his freshman year in 1976.
COLORADO: The university appointed a former college president to help the school determine if its athletic department has a culture that encourages mistreatment of women. The school's football program is at the center of a scandal that includes allegations of rape. John DiBiaggio is expected to begin work as athletics liaison next week and will report directly to school president Betsy Hoffman and chancellor Richard Byyny. DiBiaggio is a former president of Tufts, Michigan State and Connecticut.
DUKE: Former Charlotte Independence coach Tom Knotts was named quarterbacks coach.
MIAMI: Two games were rescheduled to avoid a conflict with the Jewish New Year. The home game against Louisville was scheduled for Sept. 16, the first day of Rosh Hashanah, and was moved to Oct. 14. A home game against Louisiana Tech on Oct. 16 was moved to Sept. 18. Game times have not been set.
