BROOKSVILLE - Police are looking for two suspects who snatched a woman's purse outside a Brooksville supermarket and dragged her about 100 yards as they drove away.

The purse-snatching occurred about 12:50 p.m. Thursday as the victim left the Publix supermarket at 19490 Cortez Blvd., said Brooksville police Chief Ed Tincher.

As the woman walked toward her car in the parking lot, a gray Dodge Stratus approached her and the male passenger asked her for directions to Broad Street, Tincher said.

When she turned to give them directions, the passenger grabbed her purse. The driver, described as a woman in her 30s with long, dark hair, then drove off with the purse still wrapped around the victim's shoulder, Tincher said.

The unidentified woman was dragged about the length of a football field when the sedan struck a curb and she lost her grip. She was later treated at Oak Hill Hospital for minor injuries and released.

Police are looking for the suspects, who were last seen traveling west on the State Road 50 truck bypass toward SR 50.

Anyone with information about Thursday's crime is urged to contact the police department's anonymous tip line at 754-6825.
