DAYTONA BEACH - Shawn Wiggins scored 18 and Thurman Zimmerman 15 to push South Carolina State past Bethune-Cookman 72-62 on Saturday,
Wiggins scored 12 in the second half as the Bulldogs handed the Wildcats their sixth loss in nine games.
South Carolina State, which shot 54.1 percent, trailed 30-29 at the half. But the Bulldogs began to pull away, and a Wiggins 3-pointer with 4:01 left gave them a 60-50 lead.
At 12-4, the Bulldogs have a share of first place in the MEAC.
FAMU 81, N.C. A&T 70: Terrence Woods scored 27, including six 3-pointers, for the host Rattlers. Michael Harper had 16 points and nine rebounds for Florida A&M, which had only five turnovers in the second half. Sean Booker scored 24 but was the only Aggie in double figures.
W. KENTUCKY 74, FIU 43: Nigel Dixon had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the host Hilltoppers, who hit just 11-of-27 in the first half but led 29-18 at the break. Florida International was 6-of-21. The Hilltoppers pulled away in the second on nearly 52 percent shooting. Dixon was efficient close to the basket, making 6-of-9 shots. Raphael daSilva hit 6-of-8 to lead FIU with 13. Carlos Morban scored 12. The Hilltoppers made 17 of 24 free throws, while Florida International hit 7-of-11.
ECKERD 80, NOVA SE 56: Jay Washington, Marcus Bryant and Sharrod McCree scored in double figures for the host Tritons, who wrapped up the regular season. Washington had 21 points and four rebounds for Eckerd, which went on a 9-0 run midway through the first. Steve Berg came off the bench to hit four 3-pointers as the Tritons took a 16-point lead at the break. The Knights committed 27 turnovers and Eckerd scored 36 off them. Nova center Garth Campbell scored a game-high 24. Eckerd will play in the Sunshine State Conference tournament on Thursday.
GARDNER-WEBB 67, FAU 65: Brian Bender had 17 points and nine rebounds for the visiting Bulldogs. Florida Atlantic trailed 65-52 with just more than four minutes to play but scored 13 of the final 15 to get close. A 3-pointer by FAU's Mike Bell closed the deficit to 67-65 with 47 seconds left, but Earnest Crumbley missed a final shot at the buzzer that would have sent the game to overtime. Bell led the Owls with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
UCF 106, CAMPBELL 56: Dexter Lyons scored a career-high 33 and the host Golden Knights hit a school-record 16 three-pointers. Lyons scored 20 in the first and UCF led by 37 at halftime. Lyons hit five 3-pointers as he surpassed his career high of 28 set Thursday against Gardner-Webb. Diego Aguiar led Campbell with nine points. Robert Ross came off the bench to score a career-high 19 for UCF. Josh Bodden scored 13.
