MONTREAL - Jason Ward scored a power-play goal with 24 seconds left Monday night and the Canadiens extended their season-high win streak to five with a 2-1 victory over the Devils.

Ward scored his third goal with New Jersey captain Scott Niedermayer in the penalty box, backhanding a rebound of Francis Bouillon's point shot past Martin Brodeur.

Richard Zednik scored his first goal in more then a month and Jose Theodore stopped 28 shots for the Canadiens, who are 6-1 in their last seven games.

Montreal, seventh in the Eastern Conference with 76 points, moved within two points of sixth-place New Jersey.

Turner Stevenson scored 7:58 into the third period to tie. Brodeur stopped 38 shots as New Jersey lost its third in a row.

Zednik opened the scoring 4:38 into the second period with his first goal since Jan. 29. He ended a 14-game goal drought when he tipped Bouillon's point shot past Brodeur for his 20th goal of the season, moving past rookie Michael Ryder for the team lead.

Zednik was denied a second goal midway through the period despite seeing the goal judge's red light go on behind Brodeur.

BLACKHAWKS 2, PREDATORS 2: Chicago goaltender Adam Munro earned a tie in his first NHL game, stopping 33 shots. The Blackhawks' top pick in the 2001 draft had been playing with Norfolk of the AHL before being called up two weeks ago.

Visiting Chicago tied it with 1:44 remaining when Matt Keith scored his first goal of the season by pushing the puck under goalie Tomas Vokoun from a crowd in front of the net.

DEVILS-PANTHERS TRADE: New Jersey acquired center Viktor Kozlov from Florida for forward Christian Berglund and defenseman Victor Uchevatov.

Kozlov, 29, had 11 goals and 16 assists in 48 games with the Panthers. The Russian has played nine seasons in the league with San Jose and Florida. He ranked third in career goals, assists and power-play goals for the Panthers.

Berglund had two goals and three assists in 23 games with Devils this season. Uchevatov had three assists in 52 games with Albany of the AHL.
