TARPON SPRINGS - Police arrested a St. Petersburg man Tuesday morning on charges he robbed an adult entertainment store and returned to the crime scene a month later wearing virtually the same outfit.
Fredwood Lamont Coney of 1817 Tyrone Blvd. in St. Petersburg was dressed in the same pants and shoes that he wore when he held a clerk at knifepoint on Feb. 2 at the Adult Entertainment Center at 40457 U.S. 19 N, police said.
After the robbery, store clerk Joshua Brown, 19, told police that a man approached the counter, brandished a knife and demanded money. Brown told police then that the man was wearing a blue wind-resistant jacket, jeans and light brown low-cut work shoes. The thief grabbed some cash and ran out, police said. No one was hurt, but Tarpon Springs police Detective Robert Faugno launched an investigation.
On Tuesday, Brown thought he recognized Coney when he walked into the Adult Entertainment Center around 2:30 a.m. But it wasn't until he saw Coney's brown shoes that Brown decided to call the police, said Brown's co-worker Jessie Deluca, 25. Deluca and Brown were both working in the store Tuesday morning.
"He didn't even have time to take out his knife this time" before the police were called, Deluca said.
Brown could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
When police searched Coney after arresting him at the store Monday morning they found an 8-inch Bowie knife beneath his clothing, police said.
Police charged Coney with carrying a concealed weapon, armed robbery and violation of parole. He was taken to the Pinellas County Jail Tuesday where he was being held without bail.
