Two counties say they'll sue over manatee zones

JACKSONVILLE - Two North Florida counties say they will sue the federal government over two manatee protection zones that they say are too restrictive to boaters.

Duval and Clay counties have mailed a notice to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service saying they intend to sue if the zones are not withdrawn within two months.

In August, the federal government announced new slow zones for boaters in the St. Johns River in Duval County and Doctors Lake in Clay County. Endangered manatees feed along the banks.

JACKSONVILLE - Police want to question a missing 22-year-old boarder about the shooting deaths of a man and his son.

Garrick L. Stringfield, 32, of Jacksonville, and Phillip J. Sims, 13, of Atlantic Beach, were found dead Sunday in Stringfield's home. A woman, whose name was not released, was critically wounded.

Police want to question Thomas "Tom-Tom" Bevel, who neighbors said was living with Stringfield. Phillip Sims, who lived with his mother, was visiting his father.
