CLEARWATER - A second man has been arrested in the inside-job robbery of a Clearwater check-cashing business last month.
Jason M. Dustin, 20, of Clearwater was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Friday morning on a grand theft charge. He was being held at the jail Friday afternoon in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Clearwater police said Dustin and his friend William E. Cahlstadt, 20, hatched a plan to rob the check-cashing business where Cahlstadt worked. Just after 5 a.m. on Feb. 21, police said, Dustin entered 24 Hours Checks Cashed, 1712 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd., and put a bomblike device in the teller window.
Cahlstadt handed over $17,815 to Dustin, who left with the money, police said. Cahlstadt called police, who grew suspicious because the so-called bomb looked like a road flare. The Tampa Bomb Squad determined it was just that. Detectives also noted Cahlstadt's body language seemed to indicate he was not telling the truth. Cahlstadt later admitted to his role in the heist, police said.
Dustin remained at large until he turned himself in Friday morning, police said. He told detectives he had spent all the money.
