Women: Gators fall out of SEC tournament

NASHVILLE - Sherill Baker scored 18 and Cori Chambers added 15 to help No.20 Georgia rally to beat Florida 76-72 Friday night in a SEC tournament quarterfinal.

Christi Thomas and Ebony Felder each had 13 points for the fifth-seeded Bulldogs, who play Tennessee in the semifinals today.

Florida (18-10) grabbed the lead in the early minutes of the second half but couldn't extend it past seven. The Bulldogs kept chipping away at the lead and took it at 67-64 on consecutive 3-pointers by Chambers with 4:10 to go.

Florida's last chance came when Vanessa Hayden made her first free throw but missed her second with 17.5 seconds left. Tashia Morehead rebounded and called timeout, but Danielle Santos missed a jumper.

Hayden led UF with 26 points.

NO.1 TENN. 67, MISS. ST. 57: The Vols outscored the Bulldogs 16-6 in the final 5:39. Tennessee (26-2) improved to 23-0 against Mississippi State. Shyra Ely led Tennessee with 17 points.

NO. 15 LSU 79, MISSISSIPPI 66: Doneeka Hodges hit five 3-pointers and scored 24 to help the Tigers in the quarterfinals.

NO. 21 VANDY 76, NO. 19 AUBURN 74: Abi Ramsey hit two free throws with 5.4 seconds left to lift the Commodores to their fifth straight semifinal appearance.

Conference USA

NO. 11 HOUSTON 84, CINCINNATI 67: Sancho Lyttle had 34 points and 11 rebounds to help the Cougars in the tournament quarterfinals in Fort Worth, Texas.

NO. 16 TCU 89, CHARLOTTE 73: Sandora Irvin had 26 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocks for the Horned Frogs. The eight blocks were a tournament record.

MARQUETTE 74, NO. 24 DePAUL 70: Katie O'Grady scored 17 as the Golden Eagles advanced. Carolyn Kieger added 16 for Marquette.

WAKE FOREST 61, GA. TECH 59: Tonia Brown hit a pair of free throws with 19 seconds left to break a tie as the ninth-seed Demon Deacons advanced to the quarterfinals in Greensboro, N.C.

NO. 5 PENN ST. 79, INDIANA 66: Kelly Mazzante scored 25 for the Nittany Lions in the quarterfinals in Indianapolis.

NO. 6 PURDUE 78, MICHIGAN 55: Freshmen Katie Gearlds and Erin Lawless combined for 21 second-half points for the Boilermakers.

NO. 22 OHIO ST. 58, NO. 18 MINN. 50: Caity Matter scored 24 as the Buckeyes advanced.

NO.25 MICH. ST. 81, IOWA 54: Lindsay Bowen scored 23 in the second half for the Spartans.

FLORIDA TECH 57, TAMPA 56: Marcia Alvarado made a layup with eight seconds left to lift the third-seeded Panthers in the opening round at Winter Park. Yushanda Morse of Tampa had 18 points and 19 rebounds.

FLA. SOUTHERN 79, SAINT LEO 63: Lucresia West scored 37 with 16 rebounds to lead the Moccasins. September Harrison led the Lions with 16 points.

ECKERD 44, BARRY 33: Qunisha Rush scored 14 and Janielle McCullough added 11 to lead the fifth-seeded Tritons.
