Don't worry; it's only a MacDill drill

TAMPA - If you see smoke and hear electronic warnings and explosions today at MacDill Air Force Base, don't panic.

Beginning at 8 a.m., the base will test its emergency responses to a mock disaster.

Officials with the 6th Air Mobility Wing say the test is to gauge how civilian agencies and military units would respond and work together when faced with a major aircraft accident with casualties. The exercise will be going on all day, but the noise and smoke will be brief, occurring in the morning and early afternoon, a base official said.
