CRYSTAL RIVER - A 21-year-old Crystal River man was arrested Tuesday and charged with unlawfully wearing a police uniform. While on patrol, Crystal River police Officer Thomas Peruche saw Jonathan William Attrino of 2850 N Crede Ave. riding a bike on NW Sixth Avenue.
He wore a black T-shirt that said "Winter Park Police" on the back, an arrest report said. The officer recognized Attrino as the man who had been stopped about two weeks ago while wearing a Crystal River Police Department Explorer uniform. At that time, the report said, Attrino was warned, the uniform was taken, and he was taken home.
After being seen wearing the T-shirt, Attrino first told the officer the shirt belonged to a friend who was a deputy sheriff and had been killed, the report said. Later, Attrino said the shirt belonged to a deputy sheriff that moved out of state. Attrino was taken to the Citrus County jail, where he remained Wednesday evening. His bail was set at $500.
