TAMPA - Police this week continued to add charges against Bobbie Ray Romeo, the 33-year-old Davis Islands man who detectives say is responsible for many of the five dozen or so rooftop burglaries committed in South Tampa since September.

According to records from the Hillsborough County jail, where Romeo has been since his arrest last month, police this week filed nine additional charges against him - for a total of 20. The new charges include cocaine possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating an unregistered vehicle and refusing to accept a citation.

Romeo, a former hardwood-floor installer, was arrested Feb. 26 in connection with four of the rooftop burglaries, in which the burglar entered businesses through the roof and crawled through the air conditioning system. Police had dubbed the suspect "Spiderman" because of the method of getting inside buildings.
