It's time to break out the Hula Hoops and poodle skirts.
Sun City Center's annual FunFest, an arts and crafts festival featuring crafts, music and food from clubs and residents, is set for March 20 at the Community Association's central campus, located at N Pebble Beach Boulevard and Cherry Hills Drive.
This year's theme, Back to the '50s, has spawned contests for twist dancing, Hula Hooping and the best period costumes.
"It's really a fun day," said event coordinator Linda Cannarella. "We're going to have some really great entertainers."
Organizers have lined up celebrity impressionists, bluegrass bands, barbershop quartets and the Riverview High School Chorus, among other acts, as the day's entertainment. A few non-'50s events are also on the schedule, including a Lindy Hop dance and Wally Ball, a cross between volleyball and racquetball.
Cannarella expects a turnout of at least 4,000. Parking is always a concern, she said, but a bus will run to the central campus all day from the community hall at 1910 S Pebble Beach Blvd. People may park there and hitch a ride to the festivities.
FunFest is open to the public and free, though there will be a charge for food and raffles.
The event begins at 9 a.m. and lasts until 4 p.m. For more information, call the Community Association at 633-3500.
