Jacksonville Raines rallies, then repeats

LAKELAND - Juwann James had 25 points and nine rebounds to lead Jacksonville Raines to its second straight Class 4A state championship Saturday, winning 63-57 over previously undefeated Winter Haven.

Winter Haven was in control, leading by as many as 11 in the third quarter, until 6-foot-7 center Josh Scott was charged with a flagrant foul and ejected.

Raines quickly cut the lead to 45-41, then went ahead on Matthew Fields' 3-pointer with 1:32 to go. Fields went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the closing seconds to seal the victory for Raines (29-2).

Winter Haven (27-1) had chances, but Aquadre Jones missed three consecutive layups in the final 30 seconds. Jones finished with 25 points. Teammate Tavarus Stokes added 13.

James scored 11 in the first half, while Derwin Kitchen had 13, Daniel Grant 12 and Fields 11.

Winter Haven finished as the state runnerup for the season straight season. Raines has three state titles in 13 years.
