DENVER - The Avalanche got major contributions from its new players and rolled past the Coyotes.

Newcomer Matthew Barnaby scored the winner for the second straight game and another recent acquisition, Tommy Salo, had 26 saves to lead Colorado to a 4-1 victory Sunday.

"Some of the guys that made big impacts were the new guys: Barnaby, (Chris) Gratton, (Ossi) Vaananen," Avalanche coach Tony Granato said. "Barnaby, you can see what he does, both the physical part and around the net. On faceoffs alone, Gratton has a presence there. Vaananen did a great job on defense and made some big hits. Tommy Salo was very solid in the net.

"The new guys have brought exactly what we thought they would."

John-Michael Liles, Rob Blake and Steve Konowalchuk also scored for Colorado.

Also, Avalanche forward Steve Moore, who suffered a broken neck when attacked by Canucks forward Todd Bertuzzi in a game March 8 in Vancouver, has been flown back to Denver, the team said. An Avalanche spokesman declined to confirm a Denver Post report that Moore was at Craig Hospital, a highly regarded treatment center for spinal cord injuries. "He is in a local hospital," Damen Zier said when asked three times about the newspaper report.

PENGUINS 3, FLYERS 3: Simon Gagne took advantage of a puckhandling mistake and scored into an open net early in the third for visiting Philadelphia.

Pittsburgh goaltender Sebastien Caron stopped a Philadelphia dump-in behind the net as teammate Rico Fata approached, but neither played the puck. The Flyers' Alex Zhamnov threw it in front for Gagne, who scored his 21st goal, and second in as many games, at 1:16.

The Flyers moved within a point of Tampa Bay for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Aleksey Morozov tied it at 2 in the second period and put Pittsburgh ahead with a power-play goal with 2:05 left in the second.

STARS 4, BLACKHAWKS 0: In his seventh start of the season, Ron Tugnutt stopped 26 shots for his first shutout of the season for visiting Dallas. The Stars extended their unbeaten streak against Chicago to 7-0-1 dating to April 2002 and closed to three points behind first-place San Jose in the Pacific Division. The Stars host the Sharks on Tuesday.

KINGS 5, MIGHTY DUCKS 1: Luc Robitaille, Trent Klatt and defenseman Nathan Dempsey each had a goal and two assists for host Los Angeles, which scored more than four for the first time in 46 games. Kings coach Andy Murray recorded his 178th regular-season victory with the club, tying Bob Pulford's franchise record. Pulford reached that mark in three fewer games.

RED WINGS 3, PREDATORS 2 (OT): Brendan Shanahan's third goal, completing his 16th career hat trick, gave host Detroit an overtime win and the most points in the league. The Red Wings have 96 points, one more than Tampa Bay, at the top of the race for the Presidents' Trophy.

OILERS 3, SENATORS 1: Radek Dvorak and Ethan Moreau scored 45 seconds apart in the second for host Edmonton, which snapped a league-record consecutive overtime streak at seven games. Raffi Torres scored later in the period for the Oilers, who are 3-0-2-3 in their past eight. Ottawa had 13 shots, its fewest of the season.

FLAMES 3, BLUES 0: Roman Turek stopped 25 shots for his second shutout and Craig Conroy scored for visiting Calgary. The loss dropped St. Louis back into ninth in the West with 78 points, one point behind Nashville and Los Angeles for seventh. The Blues have reached the postseason for 24 consecutive years, the longest professional sports streak.

WILD 3, BLUE JACKETS 2: Alexandre Daigle scored the winner and added an assist for host Minnesota, which erased a 2-0 deficit thanks to goals by Richard Park and Nick Schultz.

LATE SATURDAY: Daniel Alfredsson took advantage of a lucky bounce to help Ottawa win a tight-checking defensive game, 2-1 over host Vancouver. Alfredsson scored unassisted after the puck hopped past three Canucks with nine minutes left.
