Published March 17, 2004

Former Pasco County schools Superintendent Tom Weightman was recently honored for his distinguished service by the American Association of School Administrators.

He was one of three retired educational leaders the national group chose to recognize during its annual conference in San Francisco last month.

Weightman, 68, retired from Pasco County schools in 1996 after 22 years in the district. He went on to serve as chief executive officer of the Florida Association of District School Superintendents for six years and is currently on the Board of Trustees for Pasco-Hernando Community College.

The other honorees were Ronald "Woodie" Cheek of Taylorville, Ky., and John B. Peper of Centennial, Colo.
